Well, we won't get world peace for Christmas again this year, but we can slaughter the hell out of one of the poorest nations in the world with 25 of our friends and allies.

The US/NATO troops in Afghanistan are enabling many development activities, that the peace movement in the US chooses to ignore. Schools, universities, roads, tubewells, electricity supplies, markets, etc., etc.
Would these activities go on without the US presence? Perhaps. If history is a guide, these did not happen during the 1996-2001 rule of the Taliban.
Does it justify the slaughter? It is a matter of perspective. What would be happening without the US & NATO presence there?
